Financial aid at the Virginia M. Satir Center

Taking Satir into the world, one person at a time.

Between 30 and 40 percent of the people in our workshops and trainings are in the room because of financial aid. Your gift is how we keep saying yes.

Giving Tuesday · December 1, 2026

This is work we can't do alone. We need your help.

Our goal this Giving Tuesday is $50,000 for our 2027 Financial Aid fund. Friends of VMSC have already committed $15,000 toward 2027, which leaves $35,000 to reach. Every gift of every size brings one more person into the room next year.

Our mission

Everyone deserves to learn this work. Every gift is a yes.

At VMSC, we believe anyone who wants to learn the Satir Growth Model should be able to, whatever their circumstances. About 20 percent of our operating budget goes to financial aid, and it is one of the things we protect most.

Our aid fund is set each year, shaped by what we and our donors can give. Each time it grows, we get to say yes to one more person who wants to be in the room. In 2026, gifts from donors like you made up about a third of the aid funds we had available.

Even with financial aid at the heart of our work, there are times we have to turn people away because our aid funds have run out. With your help, we can welcome more of the people who are asking to be in the room.

Students

Satir's work is taught in far fewer university classrooms than it once was. We bring it to them, and aid lets curious students stay for the full training. In 2026, participants from our relationships with Case Western and UNC joined our Summer Intensive with aid.

People who travel from around the world

Participants have joined us from Taiwan, China, Thailand, Germany, the Netherlands, South Africa, Japan, Canada and the United Kingdom. Aid helps cover the seat. They cover their own travel and lodging.

Communities with less access to this work

Aid opens the door for practitioners and community members from communities that have not always had a path to this training.

With gratitude

Special thanks to the Being Human Foundation.

Your generosity has helped open the door for people who might never have found their way into this work. Because of you, they are in the room, learning the Satir Growth Model and carrying it back to their families, clients and communities. We are deeply grateful.

Bringing Satir back to the university

Satir was once taught in universities. We are helping bring it back.

Fewer universities teach Satir's work than once did. Financial aid is how we change that, one faculty member and one student at a time.

We sponsor faculty
Through financial aid, faculty deepen their own knowledge of this work in our trainings.
We sponsor students
Students join our trainings with financial aid, so cost does not decide whether they learn this work.
We come to campus
On our own time and at our own expense, our facilitators give guest lectures and one- to two-day trainings for students and community members.

“These are the people who will carry Satir’s work forward, and we are helping them get there.”

In their words

What happens when someone says yes.

“Satir invites you to be yourself with honesty, respect, and allows each person to shine bright with love. I’m leaving loving myself more fully, with the ability to love others more fully!”

Student, Texas Wesleyan University
“The Satir Summer Intensive Training gave me a safe environment and tools to recover my humanness.”

“You will learn more than a theory or modality; you will experience Virginia Satir’s spirit and how her ideas are transformative.”

A note from us

Dear friend,

Thank you for caring about where this work goes next. Every gift helps someone step into a room where they can experience Satir's work for themselves, and then carry it into their own life, their own practice, and their own community.

We are grateful to have you with us.

With gratitude,
