The South Carolina Association for Marriage & Family Therapists (SCAMFT) has invited the Virginia M. Satir Center to present the full training program for its 2026 Annual Conference.

Senior Satir trainers Jean McLendon and Regina Taggart, both of the Virginia M. Satir Center, will serve as the primary conference presenters, co-leading all sessions throughout the event. They will be joined by Kelly Toney, who will participate as an apprentice presenter.

The conference theme, “Staying Congruent in Times of Change: Fundamentals of the Satir Growth Model,” focuses on how the Satir Growth Model supports therapists in maintaining clarity, congruence, and connection while navigating the complexity of clinical work and a rapidly changing world.

Through teaching, discussion, and applied learning, participants will explore foundational concepts of the Satir Growth Model and their practical application in work with individuals, couples, families, and professional systems.


Conference Sessions

Jean McLendon and Regina Taggart will co-present the following sessions:

  • The Satir Growth Model: Creating Peace Within, Between, & Among

  • The Satir Growth Model: The Impact of Family of Origin Experiences in the Satir Change Process

  • Satir Supervision & Professional Integration

  • The Satir Growth Model: Ingredients of and Interaction with Couples

  • The Satir Growth Model: Experience Satir Interventions and Ethical Practice

These sessions introduce key principles of the Satir Growth Model while offering practical insight into how Satir-based approaches support meaningful change in therapeutic and professional contexts.


Continuing Education

Continuing education credits are provided by SCAMFT. Per SCAMFT’s conference event, the conference will offer up to 13 continuing education credits, including: 1 Supervision C & 3 Ethics CEs.

Credits are expected to be available for LMFT, SWK, and LPC professionals in South Carolina, Georgia, and North Carolina.

Meet the Training Team

Jean McLendon, LCSW, LMFT

Jean McLendon is widely recognized as the leading authority on the Satir Growth Model. She serves as Director of Training at the Virginia M. Satir Center and studied directly with Virginia Satir for nearly two decades, working closely with her during the final years of Satir’s life. For more than 40 years, Jean has taught the Satir Growth Model to therapists, coaches, and leaders around the world and is known for her exceptional ability to bring Satir’s work to life in ways that are clear, practical, and deeply transformative.

Regina Taggart, LCSW

Regina Taggart is Executive Director of the Virginia M. Satir Center and a licensed clinical social worker based in North Carolina. For more than two decades, she has integrated the Satir Growth Model into her clinical practice, supervision, and training work. Regina has trained therapists and practitioners around the world in the Satir Growth Model and is known for her grounded, compassionate approach to supporting growth, integration, and meaningful change in individuals, couples, and families.

Kelly Toney, MSW, LISW-CP, CEDS-S

Kelly Toney is a licensed clinical social worker, supervisor, and certified eating disorder and body image specialist in South Carolina. For the past decade, she has specialized in the Satir Growth Model and is currently apprenticing with Jean McLendon at the Virginia M. Satir Center, who has been a guiding mentor throughout her practice. She integrates this systemic, experiential approach with evidence-based practices to foster authentic presence, meaningful connection, and sustainable transformation.
